Dresses all year round — just add a jumper!
Posted on May 26 2022
As the weather starts to change and the temperature drops, I know I'm not alone when I start digging around in the back of my wardrobe to find those winter knits, jumpers and jackets that I hid away during the summer. With winter just around the corner I'm dreading the idea of saying goodbye to my favourite comfy dresses for a few months, simply because it's too cold to wear them!
Well, that's how I felt until I realised there was a way to could keep my favourite dresses around for just a little bit longer; even all year round! Simply add a jumper. Sounds easy in theory, but how exactly do you just 'add a jumper' to your favourite styles without them looking messy, distracting and unpolished. I've got 3 top tips for you to get even more wear out of your wardrobe.
1. Always choose pieces you love. Your favourite dress, a print you feel good in, or a coloured jumper that makes you feel like a million bucks! Whether you're plus size, straight size, tall or short, confidence comes from the inside out! So knowing you feel good is going to be the icing on this outfit cake.
If you start with pieces that you feel comfortable and confident in, then surely putting them together will just give you double the confidence! It does help if the pieces you love happen to be in complimentary colours or prints. I personally like to style a block coloured jumper with my favourite printed dress to keep it simple and stylish — add your favourite boots for that winter feeling.
2. Create shape with (hidden) accessories. Often times I find women are scared to layer with jumpers out of fear that it will make them look bulky or will hide their shape. Never fear! A simple belt or waist tie is the answer to all your shapeless problems. Because all of our dresses are free size styles, this makes them so much easier to be able to manipulate to show off your best assets and change to suit your own style.
So, pop a dress on, add your favourite jumper, and simply use the dresses waist tie, or a belt over the dress (under the jumper) to cinch you in at the waist or under the bust. Then tuck the front of your jumper into that tie/belt so that it hangs over the front, covering your extra accessory!
3. Opt for a longline cardigan or shacket, instead of a jumper. If a jumper just isn't your style, why not look for a cardigan to wear with your favourite dresses. Choosing a longline style is a great way to elongate your torso and emphasise your lovely flowy dress without creating bulk on the body. Plus it's easy to remove if the weather changes!
That's it! You're ready to wear your dresses all year round!
